Symptoms
- Save or Export shows an error or nothing happens.
- The file does not appear in the chosen folder.
- Export dialog closes but no image is created.
Likely causes
- No write permission to the target folder (network drive, protected system folder, or external disk).
- Insufficient disk space on the target drive.
- Invalid filename or a very long path (Windows).
- Antivirus / ransomware protection blocks the write operation.
- Exported format options don’t match the image (for example, trying to save transparency to JPEG).
Step‑by‑step fix
-
Try a local, writable folder
Save to Desktop or Documents instead of a network location or external drive. -
Check free space
Ensure there is enough space for the output (especially at high resolutions). -
Shorten the path & filename
On Windows keep the full path shorter and avoid special characters like:*?"<>|. -
Run once with elevated rights (Windows)
Right‑click the app → Run as administrator and save again. If this works, adjust folder permissions so admin rights are no longer needed. -
Review security software
Temporarily disable real‑time scanning or add an exception for the output folder/app (corporate Ransomware/Controlled Folder Access may block saves). -
Try another format
If JPEG fails, try PNG or TIFF. For very large images, export in a lossless format first, then convert if needed. -
Lower export resolution (if enormous)
Test a smaller size to rule out memory/IO limits, then increase gradually. -
Test a different drive
Save to an internal SSD if external or network storage is unreliable.
Format notes (PNG/JPEG/TIFF)
- PNG: lossless; supports transparency (alpha).
- JPEG: lossy; no transparency. If you need transparent backgrounds, use PNG or TIFF.
- TIFF: lossless; can store high‑quality outputs and alpha if enabled by your OS dialog.
FAQ
-
Why does nothing happen when I click Save?
Usually a permission or path issue. Try Desktop/Documents and a short filename. -
Where is my file saved?
Use Save As… and note the folder shown at the top of the dialog; check your system’s Recent files as well. -
Can I recover a failed export?
If the preview shows the result, try saving to a different folder or format immediately—no need to re‑render.
